Alliance members have pledged to provide varieties with maximum garden performance. Some alliance members are breeders and others are young plant producers.
The goal of the Garden Leader Alliance is to offer the best garden performing varieties on the market. Alliance members develop and test new Garden Leader varieties which are introduced every year.
Consumers love Garden Leaders and keep coming back for more because Garden Leaders are better in the home garden. Consumers who buy and grow Garden Leaders know them as overachievers. Their matchless outdoor vigor makes them grow like they are on steroids.
For twenty years Garden Leader vegetable and flower varieties have been tested in garden and field trials across the country. At great expense to Grimes Horticulture, research has been conducted nationwide in every state and in every “real world” condition.
Evaluating the results of these tests, year after year, is the basis for selecting every variety worthy of being called a Garden Leader.
Every Garden Leader variety must be good in the pack and as early as any variety in its class. Additionally and importantly, every variety is tested in different types of soil, dry and wet conditions, humidity (for disease resistance) and sun and shade condi- tions. Garden Leader vegetables and flowers are tested against every major variety on the market. All new varieties are thoroughly tested in field conditions. Garden Leaders must exceed in both transplantability and reliability through varying climatic conditions.
Garden Leaders are trialed on a wide scale at universities, at producers and by Garden Leader Alliance partner breeders. The top priority of all of our breeders is garden performance.
Garden Leaders are not rushed to the market before outdoor testing and garden evaluation has been done. Each Garden Leader must meet our specific criteria. That is why a few genetic classes will never become Garden Leader unless new and improved genetics can be found. The Garden Leader title must be earned.
Garden Leader vegetable and herb varieties are tested for taste as well as disease resistance and yield.
Extensive testing is also done in containers to evaluate habit and root development. Container trials are meaningful for trialing habit and for patio vegetable performance. Visit the annual container trial garden at Grimes Horticulture.
When home gardeners take home a Garden Leader vegetable and flower variety their success is certain. Every Garden Leader variety has passed our tests and is guaranteed. That is why our experienced horticulturalists assure “Home Gardenland Security”.
The work has been done for both growers and home gardeners. Garden Leaders have been tested and approved for you. Garden Leaders are worthy of every growers exceptional confidence.
